Scouting
A Montgomery Tradition

In 1912, Dr. E.F. Montgomery, Sr. had his first camping experience that would impact camping ministry for generations to come. As a student at Austin College in Sherman, TX, he was invited to go with the local YMCA's boy scout troop on their camping expedition to the Big Blue River in Oklahoma.
Later, as a newly ordained pastor, Dr. Montgomery organized a boy scout troop in McIntosh, FL in 1916. That summer they went to Orange Springs to camp for a week. This was the beginning of his camping tradition in Florida.
The tradition continues with current director Rebekah Rodgers. She is the daughter and granddaughter of Eagle Scouts, and is mom to two girl scouts and a cub scout. Scouting is an important part of her life, and she has the joy of carrying on that legacy at Camp Montgomery.
Montgomery Center supports all scout troops by providing space for camping, earning awards, and community service opportunities.
Montgomery Center is a council-approved campsite suitable for Cub Scouts by the North Florida Council of Scouting America.

Scout Projects
Scouts have an opportunity for service projects every time they visit Camp Montgomery. These can be small projects to assist our staff, projects that complement environmental education needs, or larger projects, like Eagle Scout projects and highest awards for Girl Scouts. Listed are some examples of service projects completed by scout troops at Montgomery. See our support page for more ideas as you plan your next trip, or contact our maintenance director to plan a project for your troop.
Trail Clearing
With miles of trails, trail cleaning is a great option for a service project, especially after storms. Removing branches and clearing trails keeps everyone safe on their outdoor adventure.
