Summer Staff

Summer Ministry Team

We're excited that you're interested in being a member of the 2025 Montgomery Ministry Team!

We are aiming to hire 25 to 30 staff to be cross-trained superheroes. Staff attend a week-long training prior to the start of camp that will fully immerse them into the camp culture & set expectations for the summer.

Seminary students seeking an internship in a non-traditional ministry setting are encouraged to apply to serve.

We also rely on about 20 volunteers throughout the summer to assist with healthcare needs, pastoral care, Bible studies, outdoor worship services, crafts, and so much more! Volunteers will have a training day at the start of summer to learn how their work in the local church can support young disciples throughout the region.

We are looking for individuals that aren't afraid to spend their days outside, being a Christ-like role model for today's youth, and who are willing to serve daily with other like-minded people!

"These kids rely on Montgomery. To be trusted to be even a small part of that is a blessing." ~Counselor

FAQs

How old do I have to be to be considered for a position?

Per ACA standards, the vast majority of our summer staff members must be 18 and over. Exceptions may be made for hiring 17-year-olds on a case-by-case basis as overnight counselors. Day Camp, kitchen staff, maintenance, and facilitators have a minimum age requirement of 16. Those interested in becoming a counselor but do not meet the minimum age requirements should inquire about the new Leadership Development Program, which will begin leadership and counselor training at age 14.

What is the time commitment?

The minimum time commitment for overnight camp staff is June 2 to July 11. The time commitment for day camp staff and facilitators is June 2 to August 1. These time frames include mandatory training and planning from June 2 to June 13.

Do I get weekends off?

Yes! Overnight camp staff may leave on Fridays at the close of camp, and return on Sunday for the beginning of a new session. Day camp staff work Monday through Friday. There will be optional weekends to work for guest groups as facilitators or event staff.

Do I have to be first aid/CPR certified to work at camp?

You do not have to have your certification upon arrival at camp, but you will need to pass either Lifeguarding with Waterfront Endorsement or Basic First Aid and CPR training at the start of staff training. Learn more about certification at redcross.org.

Where will I sleep?

Staff members sleep in air-conditioned cabins or lodges with campers assigned for the week. Two staff members will lodge with an average of six to seven campers per cabin.

What will I eat while at camp?

Staff members eat with campers in the dining hall anytime meals are served while on duty. Typical breakfasts include a fruit and yogurt bar, oatmeal, grits, pancakes, eggs, or breakfast meat. Lunch and dinner options include chicken & rice, pasta, tacos, and a daily salad bar. Food restrictions can be accommodated, and storage is available for special items as needed.

What about my laundry?

Laundry facilities at camp are limited. While there is space for the occasional load of laundry for staff members, it is recommended that staff take their laundry home for washing each weekend to avoid distractions from caring for campers.

My friend loves kids and would make a great counselor. What should they do?

Great! Friends on staff help build a strong team and family environment for our campers. Please send them the link to the interest form so we can reach out.

What is the interview process?

Upon completion of the staff interest form, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to schedule your first interview with Google Meet. If we determine that camp might be a good fit for you within our team, you will receive a link to the full staff application. Once complete, your second interview will be scheduled via zoom with presbytery representatives.
