Imagine learning, preparing, and performing a major musical, complete with drama and special stage settings, all within one week! Some of the most creative writing occurring presently in church music is in the area of children’s musicals. Some of this generation’s brightest and best composers and lyricists are able to create significant works based upon the rich and colorful stories of scripture, quite often from dramatic Old Testament narratives. Allen Pote and Tom Long, along with others, have delighted and inspired audiences and performers alike by bringing new insight and memorable music to many of the foundational stories of our faith. A weeklong music camp provides a tremendous opportunity for children to immerse themselves in fun and challenging music and drama, to become better acquainted with stories from our spiritual heritage, and to develop musical and dramatic skills, which translate easily into the broader arena of team-building and mutual collaboration toward a common and worthy goal. The culmination of this unique camp experience will be a performance for family and friends of the fruits of a week’s labor, a dramatic musical in which scripture and spiritual concepts “leap off the page” through many humorous and dramatic moments. The camp will also include times of recreation and fellowship activities interspersed with intense, but fun, rehearsals. Children will also have opportunity to work on the set (backdrops, etc.) and to learn about various aspects of theatrical production. Devotionals will be built around specific images and themes drawn from the musical.

Feel the wind across your face as you look up and watch your billowing sail, smell the salt air as you navigate the open waterways, enjoy the splendor of the sun as it sets across the endless ocean, listen as you hear the hull of your boat as it breaks the waves of the water. If you have ever looked out in awe at a sailboat drifting along in the ocean, then this is the opportunity for you. Your sailing journey, under the leadership of the Rev. Glen Dixon, a Presbyterian pastor and experienced sailor, will begin on Crystal Lake in our fleet of sunfish and by weeks end will end on an overnight cruise on the St. John’s river and the Intercostal waterway. Enjoy Bible study and personal devotion from the bow of the boat as you overlook the water. You and your crew mates will also participate in a number of other traditional camp activities. This opportunity is for beginner and experienced sailors.
